Esterline, Advanced Input Systems, New Name Mirrors Growth and Evolution

Name Modification Better Reflects Evolution to an Integrator of Diverse Input and Display Technologies.

Coeur d’Alene, ID, July 9, 2004,--------Advanced Input Devices (AID), a manufacturer of custom user interface products, is modifying its name to Advanced Input Systems to better reflect its evolution to an integrator of diverse input and display technologies. Simultaneously, the company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Esterline Corporation for the past several years, also will emphasize the relationship with its parent to better take advantage of Esterline’s global reputation.

Brad Lawrence, President of Advanced Input said, “…the term ‘systems’ in our name is designed to telegraph to customers, both current and potential, that we have the product engineering and manufacturing expertise to develop not just devices, but fully integrated systems.”

Lawrence added that, “…as we continue to grow and evolve as a company Esterline has provided us with both the resources for expansion and an excellent market reputation as a supplier of highly engineered products.”

Background:
Advanced Input was founded in 1979 by a group of experienced keyboard professionals with the goal of satisfying the growing demand for custom keyboards. In the mid to late 1980’s the exploding personal computer and terminal markets drove a large segments of the keyboard market away from custom designs toward standard commodity keyboards. Initially Advanced Input followed the market evolution into standard product, but found the market economies and falling commodity prices of standard PC keyboards to be an unattractive business model.

The company extricated itself from the commodity keyboard market segment and refocused on custom keyboards and user interface products. Since that time the company has worked to develop the technologies, services, and infrastructure necessary for establishing and maintaining successful customer relationships with many Fortune 500 companies. Their ability to develop and manufacture products that integrate a wide range of interface technologies has allowed them to increase their value added content and become a single source supplier for a wide variety of custom user interface products.

Today, Advanced Input Systems (www.advanced-input.com), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Esterline Technologies Corporation, manufactures custom user interface devices and systems for original equipment manufacturers in industries including medical, electronics, and defense. In Coeur d’Alene, they employ a staff of over three hundred people.
