Immersion and Advanced Input Systems Sign Technology License Agreement for Haptic Products

Advanced Input Systems to Incorporate TouchSense(R) Technology into Control Panels for Medical, Industrial, Aerospace, and Defense Customers

Coeur d’Alene, ID June 3, 2004 -- Immersion Corporation (Nasdaq:IMMR), a leading developer and licensor of touch feedback technology, and Advanced Input Systems (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho), a subsidiary of Esterline Technologies (NYSE:ESL), today announced the signing of a worldwide technology license agreement. Advanced Input, a leading supplier of input devices and control panels used by the medical, industrial, aerospace, and defense industries, will be able to incorporate Immersion's TouchSense(R) haptics technology into its products.

The agreement fulfills Advanced Input's strategic objective to partner with leading technology companies to provide cutting edge human-machine interface technologies. The agreement realizes Immersion's goal to enter markets where haptics can significantly enhance the performance and functionality of user interface devices.

"Users of our products have been primarily reliant on sight and sound for control verification," said Brad Lawrence, president of Advanced Input Systems. "Now, with Immersion's haptic technology, they will be able to trust their sense of touch for more intuitive, rapid, and precise control."

TouchSense technology enables controls to provide context-sensitive response. Depending on the stage of operation, a dial might respond with limited rotation, variable detents, or produce a spring or damping effect. Control panel usability can be vastly improved when users can differentiate control positions and navigate functions by feel in addition to sight. Immersion programmable rotary technology can reduce space requirements by consolidating single-function controls into an easy-to-use multifunctional design.

"The Immersion and Advanced Input partnership creates a sound business model for rapidly expanding Immersion's programmable rotary technology into the medical equipment and industrial markets," stated Tim Tight, vice president and general manager, Immersion's Industrial Business Group. "Through Advanced Input's strong market leadership position and international sales force, we are offering OEMs worldwide a technology that can transform control panel usability. Our technology provides a source of very competitive product differentiation for them."
